I went shooting again yesterday, maybe the last time for the year. I have two used pistols I bought last spring and needed to test shoot them. Back in April and May I bought another HK USP .45 and also a Kahr MK9 (9MM). I’m not sure I even want the Kahr but I got a good deal so it was hard to turn down.
Yesterday I was testing mostly for reliability and also a general sense of accuracy. All shooting was at 30 feet. The weather was a little cool and sunny, nearly perfect for shooting. I arrived at the range right when they opened and it was already half full.
My “new” USP functioned perfectly with 150 rounds of hollowpoint ammunition. Accuracy seemed on par with my other one. I brought it along but only shot one magazine through it.
I fired 140 rounds through the Kahr, 40 hollowpoints and 100 round nose. There were no malfunctions. The Kahr is a very small pistol and it was difficult for me to shoot quickly, with any accuracy. Even with the extended magazine it’s hard for me to hold on to, with the flush fit mag nearly impossible. With the short mag I can only get two fingers on the grip. I will probably end up selling the Kahr, although I might shoot it again just to make sure.
I went shooting yesterday (sorry no new pics). I haven’t been in months and needed the practice. There are several guns that I need to shoot, but I only took one, my main “house” gun, my USP .45. I left the light on it because that’s how I have it at home. I did okay, but was definitely rusty. I am going to have to make myself go practice much more from now on.
I went shooting again early yesterday. I brought two guns along but only shot one, which was my Ruger Charger 22 pistol. The other gun was my S&W model 627, but by the time I got around to it the range was getting much busier and decided to leave. The Ruger functioned perfectly and absolutely loves the Federal Match ammunition I feed it; you have to be trying to miss. I had a good time, even with the crowd, and the Ruger makes any day at the range a great one.
I went shooting last Thursday, the first time this year. I only took two of my Ruger 22 pistols. I wasn’t in the mood to shoot anything larger. I went early on a weekday so there were very few people around and the weather was perfect too, just a relaxing couple of hours – trying to make one big hole out of a bunch of little ones. That’s a morning well spent.
If you are a long time reader of my blog you’ve probably noticed the lack of guns and shooting posts in the last year or so. The fact is that there hasn’t been much to post about. I haven’t even bought a gun in over 18 months. There’s very little that I want and certainly nothing I need. I’m full up.
My only major purchase in that time has been a scope. I bought a Trijicon Accupoint for one of my rifles. Someday I hope to mount the scope and sight it in. I also got an AR-15 receiver as a Christmas gift that I’m planning to make into a pistol, at some point. If I ever finish either project I will post a review for you.
As for shooting I have been a few times this year. I usually take the same gun, my carry gun, so I’d only be rerunning previous posts if I bothered to post about it.
For the aforementioned reasons gun postings will be light for the foreseeable future.
