Sting-Ray Afternoons is a memoir about being a boy growing up in 1970’s America. Mr. Rushin is a gifted writer and his words can transport you away to that long gone time and place. If you were a boy in the suburbs of 1970s America, or want to know what it was like, this book is a must read.
I didn’t even know there were still some of these machines around being used. I have a very distinct memory of getting a blue T-Rex from one at the Louisville Zoo in the early 1970s. What a thrill, watching your very own toy being made to order, and still warm from the mold. And that smell of burning plastic in the air!
